Update # 65
Good Evening,
A whole week since the last update -- things have been quiet!!!
Last Thursday, the 5th, home health stopped by to do a CBC. Jeff's counts had risen again so there was no need to stop by Cardinal Glennon on Friday.
I was able to speak with the Barnes transplant coordinator on Thursday after school. She said they are still in the process of complimentary typing 3 people. One person was a mismatch in one area. She hopes to have this completed by the end of this week. Dr. Dipersio will then review the details and make the final decision. She said when we meet with Dr. Dipersio on Oct. 23rd, he will give a time frame for November but probably not an exact date for the transplant.
Friday morning, the 6th, the three of us drove to StL for Jeff's appointment with a cardiologist from Barnes. This doctor had read the report from CG but wanted to check Jeff out for himself. Jeff had an EKG done in the exam room and the doctor said it looked fine. He then questioned Jeff and Jeff answered no to everything. The doctor wants to do a couple more tests before he makes any decision about a possible change in Jeff's heart function. So a Stress ECHO and a MUGA Scan will be performed on Oct. 25th. The doctor felt with all the chemo Jeff has endured and the upcoming transplant, these baseline tests will be good to have on record.
Before we left the Barnes complex that day, we stopped by to visit a couple of people from Hillsboro who were there as patients.
Jeff was also excited about Friday since that was the day KWWL was beginning demolition on the second floor of their building. It is now being gutted to house the new control room along with other production facilities and offices.
Jeff and I went to Costas this morning for another CBC and a Dr. Gauvain check up. They drew some extra blood this morning since the cardiologist also wanted to have some blood tests done. We should get those results next week. Jeff's CBC today showed his counts had risen again so Dr. Gauvain said he could wait till next Monday for a CBC. She was pleased with the way Jeff looked and felt. His left lung was clear and his right leg is still healing slowly.
Today is Jeff's "last" day as a director at KWWL since his twelve week medical leave now ends. He spoke with his immediate boss the other day on the phone and he keeps in touch with other guys from the station. His heart is still in Waterloo at KWWL and he's anxious for the transplant so he can return up north.
So we pray for another quiet week until his check up next Monday. Our neighbor just returned from a 2-week trip to China. She came over last night and gave Jeff a gift she had brought back especially for him. Lyn commented that she wanted Jeff to have the "warrior statute" since Jeff was her warrior. Jeff's armor is his faith and all the prayers each of you send every day help him through this battle. Thank you. God bless.
love,
Marcia
