Update # 69

Good Evening,

Well, we guess if there was a prayer to not be answered our way, this is probably the one.  Barnes Hospital called Jeff yesterday and said the donor is not available until at least the first week of December -- so there is still not a transplant date yet.

Dr. Dipersio feels that with having to wait longer than he wanted, Jeff should have a "salvage" round of chemo.  Three days of three low dose chemos.  He figures Jeff should recover in about 3 weeks.  Jeff has never had one of the chemos before so he's wondering about what reaction he might have with it.

They wanted Jeff to begin chemo tomorrow the 3rd but we have tickets to The Fox in StL on Saturday to see "Spamalot".  So Jeff and I will go to Cardinal Glennon on Monday morning the 6th.  Chemo will end on Wednesday the 8th.  If Dr. Gauvain wants Jeff to have a Neulasta shot to help raise his counts, he would have to wait till Thursday to be discharged.  The shot must be given 24 hours after chemo.  She'll let us know about it on Monday.

Ken and I are switching parts of the week this time since I have parent/teacher conferences Wednesday night and Thursday morning.  Jeff's transplant class scheduled for the 8th of course had to be cancelled.  It's usually every other week but that was the only one planned for November.  We already have read a couple of books but were looking forward to seeing the actual transplant unit.

The bone marrow biopsy scheduled for the 13th has to be postponed, too.  Dr. Dipersio wants it done closer to transplant time so it's tentatively set for the 22nd.  We'll still see Dr. Dipersio on the 13th and they'll do a  CBC, Pulmonary Function and chest x-ray.  They said we might get to see the transplant unit that day

We were all pretty surprised by the call yesterday saying everything has now changed.  Jeff's not crazy about being in the hospital on election day -- no 24/7 cable news channels!!!  He did vote by absentee ballot yesterday and I went after school today to vote early.  I guess God reminded us that His way will probably be best in the long run.  Thanks for the prayers and concerns.  We appreciate everything.

love,

Marcia
