Update # 203
Almost 9 years
Happy Fall from Iowa,
Yes, I’m in Iowa. I know I talked with a couple of you this week and all was well with Jeff but things changed a bit yesterday.
Early yesterday afternoon, Jeff called to say he came home Thursday night with a cough. Meridith had called their family doctor and made a 10:20 AM appointment yesterday for Jeff. But when it was time to go, he was too lightheaded to drive so he cancelled. After Meridith returned home from work, they went to convenient care.
That doctor did a CBC, flu test, strep test, chest x-ray and prescribed 2 meds. Jeff had a 103 temperature. Jeff was diagnosed with pneumonia so he was also given a shot of a very strong antibiotic. Since Jeff & Meridith’s family doctor is on maternity, the convenient care doc decided to contact Jeff’s Waterloo oncologist and ask his opinion. Dr. Masri recommended to admit Jeff overnight to the hospital. He knows how things can quickly change for Jeff so he felt this precaution was necessary.
Jeff is again in Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo but is already doing better. An IV antibiotic was given last night and Jeff will have 2 more doses of antibiotics yet this evening. One doctor this morning said Jeff may be in a day or two. We figure the weekend with probable discharge Monday.
I drove up this morning to help so Meridith can continue to work without having to take off more time. I currently plan to return home Tuesday. This pneumonia must have been caught early because Jeff has not had constant coughing. The fever broke right after being given meds and has not returned. If all of this continues as expected, I will not do another update. No news is good news.
We appreciate all the prayers you continue for Jeff. They certainly are a most important part of his life. We are very thankful to have each of you as part of our lives.
Love,
Marcia
